Blog Project Progress
Blog Project Progress Kyle and Billy
At first we were going to make each player move by voice command , but then we decided to change the idea and make each player move with the keyboard instead. We made this decesion because we didn't have the materials to do this , we weren't sure how long it would take to do this since this was a new experience for us and Shaun Bell reccomended me to do something more simple for a 1st scratch project. Our final decesion was making player 1 move with the arrow keys and we made player 2 move by a,s,dand w controls because they are the most simple keyboard controls to move a character.
First of we learned that the players movement is based on the degree of a compass with 0 going up, 180 going down, -90 going left and 90 going right. We also had to adjust the speed of each player. At first we were going to make the players move with 1 step with a repeat of 8 , but it was too fast and players had a hard time making a turn at the right timing so we decided to make each player repeat 0.5 steps instead because players don't have a hard time making turns without hitting the wall and I find that this step change gives the player more a precice movement.
At first we were going to make each player go through a diffrent maze , but we decided to change that because we didn't want any players making excuses that one maze was easier than the other one.
Our 1st problem that we had to fix with the doors was making each player stop when they touch a door because what would be the point of the door if the player could go through it.So bacially the player would freeze on contact with the greydoor and the player wouldn't be able to pass unless the player isn't touching the color grey.
Another problem that we had was how the player was going to go through each door at first we wanted the player to open each door we were going to make each door have a creek sound and the door sprite would move to the side so that the player could pass by the maze. We decided not to do this because we thought and didn't want a problem happening to a player where they freeze and didn't mean to touch an opened door by the side so instead we decided to make each player break a door andmake it disapear so that this problem doesn't happen.
We were at first going to make each player brake through a door when the player was touching a door and using a slider, but since we were only allowed using 1 peeko board we connected 2 photo resistors to the peeko board so that players have an equal advantage.
We also had a problem where each door wouldn't make a breaking noise when you pressed on the photo resisitor , but we fixed the problem and realized that we had to import the sound into each door sprite.
